As a student veteran at St Andrews University, Tom “N.T.” Wright convinced me that theology is a communal activity. Civilian theology is what happens when military service has been removed from the interpretation of scripture, tradition, and doctrine. Civilian Bias centers Augustine and Aquinas as “theologians” rather than Martin, Francis, or Joan. Acknowledging your blindspots takes work, and that’s where Onward comes in.
