Waiting for the Sheikh, we’re chatting with Sameer. Looking at him, quiet and reserved, I have a profound respect for him. He has been quiet the whole time, even though it was his coordination that brought us here. His son was our driver (me, Greg, Jamie, and Shane) from the border into Rutba. His “quietude” is something I think I need to learn from. I got a picture of him in his reserved sophistication in the afternoon sun that I think I will reminisce on once I return.
Waiting around the hospital is much like regular life in Iraq; most don’t leave their homes. No school, no hanging with friends, just sitting and waiting.
